18/11/09 – Raj Kapoor Retrospective at St. Petersburg
Under the Year of India in Russia 2009, a Retrospective of films of the legendary Indian actor, director and producer Raj Kapoor will be held at Mirage Cinema, 35, Bolshoi Prospect, Saint Petersburg, as per the following schedule:

05/11/2009 – Rishi Kapoor visits Moscow and Vladikavkaz
Within the framework of the Year of India in Russia 2009, an exhibition titled "A Journey of Indian Cinema" will be held at M.S. Tuganov Art Museum, Vladikavkaz, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania on 9-10 November 2009. Renowned Indian film actor Rishi Kapoor (son of the legendary Indian film actor, director and producer Raj Kapoor) will be the Chief Guest at the inauguration of the exhibition.
Prior to his departure for Vladikavkaz, Mr. Rishi Kapoor will be present at the screening of his film "Chintuji" at "Khudozhestvenny Theater" on 24 Novy Arbat Street, Moscow at 17:30 hrs on 9 November 2009, which is open to general public. The film also features Russian ballerina Kseniya Ryabinkina. Entry is free.
29/10/09 – Exhibition on "Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy: A Unique Legacy"
At The State Leo Tolstoy Museum, Moscow
Under the framework of the Year of India in Russia, an exhibition on "Mahatma Gandhi & Tolstoy: A Unique Legacy" opened on 29 October 2009 at the State Leo Tolstoy Museum, 11/8, Prechistenka Street, Moscow. The exhibition is curated by Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti (Gandhi Memorial), New Delhi and organized in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The Exhibition will run for two weeks.
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by H.E. Mr. P.P.Shukla, Ambassador of India; Mr. Andrei Busigin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Mr. Vitaly B. Remizov, Director of Tolstoy Museum; Mr. Alexander Lvov, Head of State Museum Exhibition Centre (ROSIZO) and Mr. Vladimir Tolstoy, great grandson of Tolstoy and Director of Tolstoy’s Yasnaya Polyana Estate. The dignitaries at the inauguration spoke of the great influence Mahatma Gandhi and Tolstoy had on the world by preaching the enlightened doctrine of non-violence and referred to the correspondence between the two personalities. The original letters are preserved in the Tolstoy Museum and are at display. Children of the Embassy of India School, Moscow presented Gandhi’s favourite religious songs on the occasion. Russian students of Youth Theatre presented folk songs. The exhibition was declared open by lighting of the ceremonial Indian lamp.
30/09/2009 - Visit of Commerce and Industry Minister to Russia
Shri Anand Sharma, Commerce and Industry Minister, during his meeting with the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, in Moscow today, reaffirmed India’s abiding commitment to nurture and consolidate the strategic partnership with Russia. In his meeting with Prime Minister Putin, the Minister held discussions on a wide range of bilateral issues including on means to diversify and deepen the economic engagement with Russia.
Shri Sharma also held bilateral meetings with Minister for Economic development Ms E Nabiullina, and launched the third India-Russia Forum on trade and investment. The forum was also addressed by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander Zhukov and attended by over 300 delegates from Indian and Russian industry. During the delegation level talks with his counterpart, Shri Sharma impressed upon the need to diversify bilateral trade and move away from just commodity trading to high-level investments in identified sectors. The priority sectors that were mutually identified include Pharmaceuticals, Energy (including nuclear energy), IT, High technology cooperation, agro processing and gems and jewelry. The two ministers agreed that the bilateral trade between the two countries needs to have an ambitious agenda, given the strategic nature of bilateral engagement and set a target of $ 15 billion by 2012.
Later in the day the Minister held bilateral talks with Mr. V Khristenko, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia. Both the ministers agreed to intensify cooperation in defence and nigh technology sectors and to move towards an engagement based on partnership. The need to encourage joint ventures through regular business to business interaction was stressed. Minister Khristenko indicated that he would visit India by December 2009.

Within the framework of the Year of India in Russia 2009, one of the largest business events of India in Russia 'The India Show' will be held at St. Petersburg at Lenexpo (Pavilions 5 and 5A) from 30 September to 3 October. The India Show is a unique B2B platform for manufacturers, exporters, importers, suppliers and buyers from both India and Russia. The event seeks to project a range of India's quality products and all-round technological advancements to the Russian market. The event is organized by India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) with the support of the Embassy of India in Russia and the Consulate General of India in St. Petersburg. Over 140 leading Indian companies are participating and sectors in display include Engineering, Chemicals and allied products, Information Technologies, Electronic and Computer software, Space Technology, Industrial Products, Textiles, Apparel & Garments, Handicrafts and gift items, Agricultural & Processed Food, Tobacco, Tea, Coffee, and Spices.
The India Show will be inaugurated on 30 September 2009 at Lenexpo, St. Petersburg by Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Government of India Anand Sharma.
Within the framework of the Year of India in Russia 2009, Indian Film Weeks are scheduled to be held in Moscow on September 14-20 at Theatre"Khudozhestvenny", in Nizhny Novgorod on September 17-23 at Theatre "Record" and in Cheboksary on September 19-25 at Theatre "Sespel". Screenings will begin daily at 18:30 hrs. Entry is free and on a "first come, first serve" basis.
Following Indian films will be screened during the three Festivals: Ram Teri Ganga Maili (Director: Raj Kapoor), Sangam (Director: Raj Kapoor), Disco Dancer (Director: Subhash Babbar; Starring Mithun Chakroaborty), A Wednesday (Director: Neeraj Pandey), Page 3 (Director: Madhur Bhandarkar), Fashion (Director: Madhur Bhandarkar), and Traffic Signal (Director: Madhur Bhandarkar).
Renowned Indian film personalities Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor, director Madhur Bhandarkar, actress Mugdha Godse, and Producer Ganesh Desai will be present at the inaugural of the Moscow Film Week on September 14.
An Exhibition of Indian Film Posters will also be held at the venues of the Festivals.
14/08/2009 – Concert by the famous Indian Rock Band "Indian Ocean"
Under the framework of Year of India in Russia 2009, the Embassy of India, Moscow would be presenting a concert by the famous Indian Rock Band "Indian Ocean" on the occasion of the 63rd Independence Day of the Republic of India on 15th August 2009 at 1900 hrs. at Park Gorky, Moscow. Free tickets for the Concert are being distributed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre (JNCC) of the Embassy (9, Vorontsovo Polye). Tickets would also be distributed after the Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the Embassy of India, Moscow at 1030 hrs. on 15th August 2009.

The Year of India was inauguratedjointly by Mr. Alexander D. Zhukov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Dr. Karan Singh, President, ICCR on 31 March, 2009 at New Stage Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow with a gala cultural presentation of Indian classical dances and music. The presentation was repeated in St. Petersburg on 2nd April, 2009.

04/06/2009 - An exhibition of artist Seferbekov Karakhan
Press Information Note
An exhibition titled «Love and mercy will save the world» of paintings, installations and sculptures by Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Seferbekov Karakhan is being held at the Centre of House of Artists (Third Floor, Hall 16) from 5 June to 21 June 2009. The exhibition is co-organized by the Embassy of India and the International Confederation of Union of Artists within the framework of the Year of India in Russia 2009. Entry to the exhibition is free and open to the public. Media wishing to cover the exhibition are welcome.
Seferbekov Karakhan has traveled to India on several occasions. The exhibition captures his impressions of the timeless splendours of India, its countless cultures, and its incredible and soulful natural beauty – from rivers, beaches and fishing villages to the treasures of the Himalayas and the tropical sun. The artist’s series of works on Daghestan (his place of birth) and the Moscow Region will also be on display.

28/05/2009 - Classical Indian Music Concerts
Renowned Indian violin maestro Dr. L. Subramaniam is scheduled to perform Carnatic Classical Indian Music Concerts in Moscow on 1 June 2009 at Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory and on 5 June 2009 at Dom Muziki. He will perform in St. Petersburg on 3 June 2009 at Shostakovich Academic Philharmonic Hall (Small Glinka Hall). He will be accompanied by his spouse, popular Indian singer, Kavita Krishnamurty Subramaniam (vocalist) and other artists.
2. Dr. L. Subramaniam is a violin icon. He has a stable foundation in Carnatic Classical, Western Music, Orchestration and rhythm, is open to experimenting with new ideas and concepts, and has collaborated with a wide range of musicians from different parts of the world, from different genres of music including jazz, occidental, jugalbandis with North Indian musicians, world music and global fusion.
3. Entry to all the three Concerts is free and open to the public on ‘first-come, first- serve’ basis. There are no entry passes for the 1 June 2009 Moscow Concert at Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory. 25/05/2009 - Visit of Indian Naval Ship Beas
Indian Naval Ship Beas is scheduled to visit the port of St. Petersburg from AM 03 June 2009 to AM 07 June 2009. The visit will be followed by Joint Exercises (PASSEX) with the Russian Navy from AM 07 June 2009 to PM 08 June 2009. Press and media briefing is scheduled to be held onboard Beas from 1840 to 1855 hrs on 03 June 2009. Representatives of the media wishing to participate in the briefing may approach Consulate General of India, St. Petersburg.
