Mr. Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce & Industry of India, led a business delegation to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on 18 – 19 June 2010.

Mr. Sharma participated in a panel discussion “The World Under Change” at the Plenary Session of the Forum on 18 June. He also called on Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Moscow on 19 June and had bilateral meetings with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Sergei Sobyanin and Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Viktor Khristenko at St. Petersburg on 18 June.

First-ever India-Russia Business Dialogue held

The first-ever India-Russia Business Dialogue within the framework of SPIEF was held on 17 June. A high-level business delegation led by the President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr. Hari Bhartia participated in the dialogue.

The participants included business leaders representing key sectors of India-Russia economic cooperation, including energy, infrastructure, IT, pharmaceuticals and diamonds. Both sides noted the strong potential for cooperation between the two countries given the complementarities and synergy already existing in these areas. Following the discussions, concrete steps for further cooperation in these areas were identified.

The results of the India-Russia Business Dialogue were presented to Mr. Anand Sharma and Mr. V. Khristenko by the leaders of the business delegation in a meeting held on 18 June. The two Ministers emphasized the importance of continuous high level B2B interactions for the development of bilateral economic relations which holds the key to achieving the trade target of USD 20 billion by 2015.

In this regard they welcomed the conclusion of a MoU between CII and SPIEF Foundation which provides for regular institutionalized B2B interactions and exchanges.

evenful moscow visit

A cultural programme was organized in honour of President, ICCR on 25 June at the D P Dhar Hall of the Embassy of India. Mr. Alexander Avdeev, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, and other distinguished guests attended the cultural presentation which was followed by a reception hosted by Ambassador at his residence.
On 23 June, Dr. Karan Singh inaugurated the 17th International Transpersonal Conference devoted to the theme of “Consciousness Revolution: Transpersonal Discoveries that are Changing the World” at Hotel Ismailovskoe. In his inaugural address, he spoke on the topic of “Spirituality in Global Society”. Before the inaugural speech a film on Dr. Karan Singh - “I Believe” made by Ranjit Chaudhary - was screened. The International Transpersonal Conference ended on 27 June. Over 1000 participants from more than 50 countries including scholars, artists and spiritual teachers participated and discussed the fundamental role of consciousness in all aspects of human life. Shri Radhesham Sharma, JNCC Tabla Teacher, presented a music concert with his students at the Closing Ceremony of the Conference.

Dr. Karan Singh was awarded with the Diploma of Honorary Membership of the Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences, on 25 June in recognition of his “outstanding scientific achievements and his contribution to the strengthening of Russia-India philosophical ties”. It was presented to Dr. Singh by academician Abdusalam Guseinov, Director of the Institute of Philosophy. The event ended with a reception organized at the Institute by JNCC.

Sixteenth India-Russia Banking Meet held

The 16th Session of the India-Russia Sub-Group on Banking and Financial Matters was held in Nizhny Novgorod on 7 – 9 June 2010 within the framework of the India-Russia Inter Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.
International Atomic Energy Forum – ‘Atomexpo 2010’ held

International Atomic Energy Forum – ‘Atomexpo 2010’ - was held in Moscow on June 7 - 9, 2010. Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Member, Atomic Energy Commission and Shri P.R. Vasudeva Rao, Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Reasearch, Kalapakkam, participated in the event. Shri RN Jayaraj, Chief Executive, Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad, also visited Moscow to participate in the Business Partners Meeting of JSC “TVEL” held on 9 - 11 June 2010.
Kathak Dance performance at ‘Asia Pacific Bazaar’

Ms. Tatiana Nazarova, JNCC local Kathak teacher, presented a Kathak Dance performance at the ‘Asia Pacific Bazaar’ held on 5 June, 2010 at the Radisson hotel. The presentation was well received by an audience of about 800 in a capacity-filled hall where artistes from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines and Vietnam also presented their cultural programmes. An ‘Indian Stall’ was put up at the Bazaar by the Indian Women’s Association.
8th Jazz & Folk Festival held

The 8th Jazz & Folk Festival was organized in the Ghezdilovo Mosalski Region, Kaluzhski, Russia during 10-14 June, 2010. Shri Radhesham Sharma, JNCC Tabla Teacher, participated in this Festival. He conducted a Master Class and presented a Concert on 13 June. The open-air festival was attended by about 300 people, of whom about 150 attended the Tabla master class.
