India and Russia Signs Protocol on Trade and Investment
The Fourth India-Russia Forum on Trade & Investment was organized by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergei Ivanov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Shri Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce & Industry of India, participated in the meeting of the Forum.

During the Forum, the following was agreed and a Protocol was signed by Shri R.P. Singh, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Mr. S.S. Voskresensky, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Russian Federation.

Both sides expressed satisfaction at the growth of bilateral trade and investments while recognizing that the level of economic relations still remained modest compared to the sizes of the two economies and their potential. In this context, both Sides noted the positive contribution of the Forum in strengthening bilateral economic engagement through establishment of direct B2B contacts.

Both sides agreed that enhancement of bilateral investment and trade cooperation is one of the main ways to widen the ambit of and further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Russia.

Both sides noted with satisfaction the signing during the Forum of agreements between Russian and Indian companies in different sectors. Both sides also welcomed the decisions taken during the 16th session of the IRIGC-TEC held in New Delhi on 18 November 2010. During the Forum, presentations on bilateral investment opportunities and prospects for cooperation in the IT sector as well as sectoral business round tables were organized. President Dmitry Medvedev official visit to India
President Dmitry Medvedev paid an official visit to India on 21-22 December 2010 to attend 11th Annual India-Russia Summit Meeting in New Delhi.

He met President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Vice President Shri M.H.Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, External Affairs Minister Shri SM Krishna, UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi and the Leader of Opposition Smt. Sushma Swaraj. Eleven documents were signed in various fields of bilateral and mutual interest. President Medvedev also visited Agra and Mumbai during his visit to India.
India, Russia Sign Contract to Design and Develop FGFA
A Contract for Preliminary Design of the Indo-Russian Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft was signed between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Rosoboronexport and Sukhoi.The Project involves design and development of a Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft that will have advanced features such as stealth, supercruise, ultra-maneuvrability, highly integrated avionics, enhanced situational awareness, internal carriage of weapons and Network Centric Warfare capabilities.

The aircraft to be jointly developed is termed Perspective Multi-role Fighter (PMF). PMF draws upon the basic structural and system design of the Russian FGFA Technology Demonstrator with modifications to meet IAF specifications which are much more stringent. The broad scope of bilateral cooperation during the joint project covers the design & development of the PMF, its production and joint marketing to the third countries. Programme options include the design & development of a twin seater variant and the integration of an advanced engine with higher thrust at a later stage.

Today's contract is only the first in a series of such contracts which will cover different stages of this complex program. The total cost including options and the value of production aircraft will make this the biggest Defence program ever in the history of India involving production of over 200-250 aircraft.

The Contract was signed by Mr. A Isaykin, General Director, Rosoboronexport and Mr. M Pogosyan, General Director RAC MiG & Sukhoi from the Russian side and Mr. Ashok Nayak, Chairman, HAL and Mr. NC Agarwal, Director (D&D), HAL from the Indian side at Delhi.
Introduction to Indian culture
Shri P.P. Shukla, Ambassador of India hosted a cultural evening-cum--reception on 3 December for a select group of invitees from different walks of life interested in Indian spiritual and cultural heritage.

The guests were from the field of industries, media, corporate sector, event management, performing and non-performing arts, tourism, academics, finance, etc. The group of influential people from diverse walks of life was inspired by Indian’s spiritual traditions after they watched the celebrated Hollywood movie “Eat, Pray & Love”.

The idea for organizing a special evening for the group was to provide them an introduction to Indian culture. The evening began with welcome remarks by Ambassador. The cultural presentation began with Yoga depicting Surya Namaskar, Padmasana, Matsyasana, Shirshasana, Vrukshasana and Kuramasana, performed by students of Dr. Suresh Babu, JNCC Yoga teacher. It followed with a devotional dance presentation “Kirtnam” in Bharatanatyam style by Ms. Irina Iskorostenskaia and Ms. Nadzheda Koveriga (JNCC teachers). The cultural presentation ended with devotional dance presentation in Odissi by Ms. Vitalina Lobach (JNCC teacher). The programme which was held at the DP DHar Hall of the Embassy was followed by a dinner at Ambassador’s residence where the guests enjoyed Indian cuisine.
