Bashkortostan Presentation at the Embassy of India, Moscow, 27.6.2013

The Embassy of India, Moscow, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan, organized a Presentation on Bashkortostan at the Embassy premises on June 27, 2013, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with the regions of the Russian Federation.

Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan, H.E. Mr. Salavat Talgatovich Sagitov, led a 33 member delegation to the Presentation, which included Head of the Ufa City Adminsitration H.E. Mr. Irek Ishmukhametovitch Yalalov, Deputy Minister of Economic Development H.E. Mr. Vadim Irikovitch Utyashev, First Deputy Minister of Industry and Innovation policy of the Republic H.E. Mr. Rustam Ravdatovitch Khairullin, Deputy Minister of Agriculture H.E. Mr. Flaris Rifkatovitch Shaikhetdinov, Director General of the Institute of Energy Resources Transportation Problems Mr. Asgat Galimyanovich Gumerov and senior officials, representatives of business companies of the Republic, artists and others.

Welcoming the guests, Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation, H.E. Mr. Ajai Malhotra, warmly recalled his visit to the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation, in June 2012. He thanked Deputy Prime Minister Sagitov for the interest in exploring cooperation with India. Ambassador recalled that trade between Bashkortostan and India has been around US$ 250 million per annum and prospects for intensifying trade and economic cooperation were enormous. He mentioned that India is the biggest buyer of aircraft engines from UMPO, located in Ufa, and expressed satisfaction over the long standing cooperation between UMPO and HAL. Ambassador also highlighted that cultural cooperation between India and the Republic of Bashkortostan was proceeding well. A Qawwali Group toured Ufa in April 2012, a joint Bashkir-India concert was presented in Ufa in June 2012, a concert “Ticket to Bollywood” by an ICCR sponsored Group was held in Ufa in January, 2013, while JNCC Moscow had organized a Kathak Dance Workshop and dance concert in Ufa in March, 2013.

The event was utilized to network and to pursue proposals for trade and economic cooperation and provided a platform to the Indian companies and those from Bashkortostan to establish business contacts.

Thirty two prominent Indian companies with a presence in Russia, participated in the event. They included companies in heavy engineering, automobiles, chemicals, tourism and travel, banking and finance, food, IT, Mining, machinery and equipments, pharmaceuticals, etc. Indian companies that made business presentations included L&T, Infosys, and Grover International. A short presentation was also made on Indian tea.

Five companies from Bashkortostan Republic made their presentations on pharmaceuticals, nano technology, food sector, metal, and engineering.

Interest was evinced in cooperation in areas such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, tourism, IT, metals, aircraft engines, oil & gas, engineering, etc.

A short cultural programme was offered by artists from the Bashkir State Puppet Theatre, who presented a puppet show based on an extract from the "Ramayana". Invitees thereafter networked over Bashkir and Indian cuisine.
