Ambassador's visit to Krasnodar Region from 15-18 May 2013
With a view to further strengthening India’s cooperation with Russia’s regions, H.E. Mr. Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation, visited Krasnodar Region (Krasnodar and Sochi) from May 15-18, 2013. India’s trade with K...rasnodar region is presently nearly $85 million per annum and is growing at a healthy pace.
The Ambassador met in Krasnodar with the Mayor of Krasnodar HE Mr. Vladmir Evlanov, the Chairman of the Krasnodar City Duma HE Ms. Vera Galushko, the Vice Governor of Krasnodar Region HE Ms Galina Zolina, and the Minister of Resort Industry and Tourism of Krasnodar Region, HE Mr. Evgeny Kudelya. Enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, culture, tourism and other fields, was explored during these meetings.
Ambassador Malhotra also inaugurated a ten-day “Best of India” Exhibition-cum-Sale in Krasnodar on May 16, 2013, in which FIEO and a large number of Indian exhibitors are participating. This exhibition-cum-sale of Indian products was first held in Krasnodar in 2011 and repeated in 2012 and, given the positive response it has received, would henceforth be held there twice a year. The Ambassador also led an Indian business delegation for a meeting at the Krasnodar Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The delegation interacted with Russian companies from Krasnodar and the meeting focused on developing B2B contacts and enhancing mutual cooperation in trade and investment.
Ambassador Malhotra also visited the Kuban State Medical University (where 26 Indian medical students are studying) and its International Centre of Regenerative Medicine, the Krasnodar State University of Culture and Arts (where a “Rabindranath Tagore South Russia Centre for the Study of Indian Philosophy and Culture” was opened in 2011), the F.A. Kovalenko Art Museum and Krasnodar State Regional Museum, an Exhibition on Buddhism, and interacted with members of the Union of Artists of South Russia. The Ambassador also met with Kuban Cossack Chorus artistic director, Mr.Viktor Zakharchenko, and witnessed a concert by the Chorus.
The Ambassador also briefly visited Sochi on Saturday, May 18, 2013, and met with the Vice Mayor of Sochi HE Mr. Oleg Yasyuk on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Ambassador Malhotra and Vice Mayor Yasyuk later that day inaugurated a ten-day “Best of India” Exhibition-cum-Sale in Sochi in which FIEO and about 80 small and medium Indian companies are participating. This Exhibition-cum-Sale of Indian products was held for the first time in Sochi in 2012 and given the enthusiastic and positive response it has received, it too would henceforth be held in Sochi twice a year.
