'Nala and Damayanti' staged at the Indian Embassy, 25 April 2013

A theatrical presentation of “Nala and Damayanti”, by the students of Put ‘Zerna School, Moscow, was hosted at the Embassy of India premises on 25.4.2013. HE Mr. Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation, attended the event as the Guest of Honour.

The evening began with the lighting of the lamp by Ambassador Malhotra, Ms. Alla Kolesnikova, Principal of Put ‘Zerna School, and Mr. Kirill Lazutkin and Ms. Oxana Kolesnikova, Stage Directors.


Ms. Alla Kolesnikova conveyed a traditional Russian welcome to Ambassador Malhotra by offering him bread with salt. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Malhotra drew attention to the Waldorf Education System on which the Put ‘Zerna School is based. He expressed pleasure that the culture of various countries, including India, received exposure at the School. Ambassador Malhotra also appreciated the School for choosing to present a story from the “Mahabharata” and thanked the talented children for staging it at the Embassy. While appreciating their interest in Indian music, Ambassador Malhotra also presented a veena, a stringed Indian musical instrument, to the Put ‘Zerna School.

The play “Nala and Damyanti” was warmly appreciated by the audience. Ambassador Malhotra later distributed gifts to the participants and presented a book, “Ramayana and Mahabharata”, in the Russian language, to Ms. Alla Kolesnikova. The evening ended with an “India Tea Reception” hosted by the Tea Board of India, Moscow.
