Ambassador's visit to Elista, Republic of Kalykia from 2-4 April 2013

H.E. Mr. Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation, paid an official visit to Elista, Republic of Kalmykia, from April 2-4, 2013, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between India and various regions of Russia. Ambassador Malhotra was warmly welcomed on arrival at Elista airport on April 2, 2013, by H.E. Mr. I Zotov, Chairperson of the Government of Kalmykia.

Cooperation in trade and investment, education and culture were discussed during the meeting Ambassador Malhotra had on April 3, 2013, with H.E. Mr. A Orlov, Head of the Republic of Kalmykia. The Ambassador also had separate meetings the same day with H.E. Ms. Larisa Vasilieva, Deputy Chairperson of the Government of Kalmykia, and Minister of Education, Culture & Science, and H.E. Mr. Erdeni Boldyrev, Minister of Economy & Commerce.



Ambassador Malhotra visited the Kalmykia State University on April 3, 2013, where he was warmly welcomed by the Rector, Mr. B Salayev, faculty members and students. Ambassador Malhotra addressed the University faculty and students on “India-Russia relations” and responded to the many questions posed by the audience. The Ambassador appreciated the facilities being provided to the students by the University. He also witnessed a cultural presentation by the students.

A special cultural presentation by the Master Artistes of the Republic of Kalmykia, the “Tyulpan Dance & Music Ensemble”, was hosted in honour of Ambassador Malhotra by H.E. Mr. A Orlov, Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, who also presented Ambassador Malhotra with a traditional Kalmyk costume.

Ambassador Malhotra visited the Buddhist Temple in Elista where he was received by HH the Shajin Lama, monks and pilgrims. He also visited the N Palmov National Museum of Kalmykia.
