Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore birth anniversary celebrated in Moscow
Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, Embassy of India, Moscow organized the celebrations of 153rd birth anniversary of "Gurudev" Rabindranath Tagore at the Friendship Park, Moscow on 7 May 2014. Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. P.S. Raghavan was the Guest of Honor on the occasion. Other prominent guests included the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. S. M. Saiful Hoque, Deputy Head of Levoberezhny District, Moscow Ms. Elena Matveeva and Head of Centre for Higher Research in Humanities, RSUH Dr. Sergey Serebriany. After offering a floral tribute at the statue of Tagore, Ambassador Raghavan described Tagore as a towering literary figure, political and social reformer, accomplished composer and a visionary educationist. Quoting Tagore's “Letters from Russia”: “If I had not come to Russia, life’s pilgrimage would have remained incomplete”, Ambassador remarked that the installation of Tagore’s statue in Moscow in 1990 reflected the great affection and friendship between the peoples of India and Russia. Thereafter, Tagore poems were recited by Ms. Alexandra Gubernskaya, Ms. Mitali Sarkar and Mrs. Krishna Roy and the choir of Shri Chinmoy Centre, Moscow presented a few Tagore songs.
