Ambassador’s interaction with Indian Business Community, 4 June 2014

The Embassy of India organized a meeting with the Indian business community (Indian & NRI businesspersons and representatives of Indian companies in Russia) at the Embassy premises on June 4, 2014. The meeting was attended by the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission and officers of the Economic, Commercial, Trade and Consular Wings of the Embassy of India.

There was a wide-ranging exchange of views and experiences on the challenges and opportunities for Indian business in Russia. It was recognized that proactive steps need to be taken by businesses and governments of both countries to increase the level of bilateral trade from the present value of around US$ 10 billion to at least US$ 20-25 billion in the near future. Proactive measures are also needed to identify and pursue investment opportunities in India and Russia. For this, concerted efforts are needed to acquaint corporates in each country about technologies and opportunities in the other.

Participants recommended that some issues of promotion of India-Russia trade and economic cooperation could be taken up at a government-to-government level. The Embassy will also be in regular touch with the Government of the Russian Federation on technical, systemic and consular matters affecting the day-to-day functioning of Indian businesspersons in Russia. Participants were requested to send to the Embassy by e-mail suggestions for issues to be taken up.

All Indian/NRI businesspersons and those representing Indian companies in Russia (including those who did not attend the meeting on June 4) are invited to send their contact details, including e-mail, to the Embassy at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . If they so desire, they may send a brief (one para) write up about their businesses, areas of interest and contact details, which can be put up suitably on the Embassy’s website as a guide for potential business contacts. They will be put on the Embassy’s mailing list for India-Russia economic and business-related information. Business representatives will also be informed about visits by senior Embassy officers to various Republics and regions in Russia, when it may be possible for the Embassy to introduce Indian companies and Indian business representatives to the authorities and businesses in these regions/Republics.

The Embassy will put out a monthly newsletter containing relevant economic information about India and Russia, potential opportunities and forthcoming business related events in India and Russia.
