Visit of the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Tatarstan

Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. P.S. Raghavan led a delegation comprising of officials and businessmen to Kazan on May 13-14, 2014. The business delegation, accompanying the Ambassador, comprised of companies working in the areas of pharmaceuticals, information technologies, chemical & paints, engineering & construction, machinery building & production and education.

The Ambassador met the President of the Republic of Tatarstan H.E. Mr Rustam Minnikhanov and discussed bilateral cooperation in trade & investment, science & technology, culture, education and tourism. Pharmaceuticals, information technologies, transport especially automobile, petro-chemicals and tourism were identified as the sectors with considerable potential for enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The Ambassador also held discussions on ongoing and potential areas of bilateral cooperation with Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Industry and Trade, H.E. Mr. Ravil Zaripov; Minister of Health H.E. Mr. Adel Vafin; Minister of Economy H.E. Mr. Midhat Shagiakhmetov and other local dignitaries of Republic of Tatarstan. The Indian business delegation participated actively in these meetings and projected to the senior representatives their perspectives on potential cooperation.

The Ambassador and the delegation visited the Technopark in Kazan, which promotes and develops IT entrepreneurships, the Kazan Helicopter factory, which manufactures the MI 17 helicopters for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Cultural Centre at the House of People’s Friendship.

At the Kazan Federal University, the Indian delegation discussed cooperation in education, including student & faculty exchanges and organization of summer schools and workshops. Ambassador Raghavan attended the 200th anniversary celebrations of Kazan State Medical University and interacted with the Indian students studying in the University (283 Indian students are enrolled in KSMU).

The government of the Republic of Tatarstan expressed keen interest in cooperating with Indian entrepreneurs, companies & investors and assured their support and assistance to companies for establishing their businesses in Tatarstan.

Tatarstan is a fast-growing and dynamic region of Russia which presents considerable opportunities for Indian companies in the areas of petro-chemical, transport, information technology, pharmaceuticals, etc. A Special Economic Zone “Alabuga” provides attractive investment opportunities for industrial projects. The Republic of Tatarstan aims to establish itself as the IT Capital of Russia with “Innopolis” project that involves the creation of an IT city and establishment of first IT University in Russia.
