International Day of Yoga (IDY) in Russian Federation (21 June 2015)
The United Nations adopted a Resolution in December 2014, initiated by India and co-sponsored by the Russian Federation, to annually observe June 21 as International Day of Yoga (IDY). The Resolution was co-sponsored by 177 countries and supported by all countries.
The aim of organizing IDY events is to highlight the importance of healthy living through Yoga, an ancient Indian tradition, which embodies unity of mind and body and provides a holistic approach to health and well-being.
To mark the first IDY on 21 June 2015, events are being organised across Russia. So far, we have confirmation from about 45 Regions. In all, about 200 IDY events in Regions across Russia have been tied up so far.
In Moscow, a large-scale event, with expected participation of over 2000 people, is being organised in Festival Square, Sokolniki Park starting at 1000 hrs on 21 June 2015. Just as in the Russian Regions, several IDY events (in addition to the one in Sokolniki Park) are being organised in Moscow, too, by socio-cultural and Yoga organisations. For participation at the IDY event in Sokolniki Park, online registration has to be done at: http://internationalyogadayrussia.com/.
The IDY events would include a Yoga demonstration (asanas) based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP): http://mea.gov.in/in-focus-article.htm?25272/International+Day+of+Yoga++Common+Yoga+Protocol
An instructional video demonstrating the asanas given in CYP has been specially made for IDY: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwQXyLTnGaP7dklhOGRmdG84M1k/edit
