Visit of Ambassador of India to Ekaterinburg, 22-23 April 2015

Ambassador led a seven member delegation comprising of Embassy officials and Indian business representatives to Ekaterinburg (Russia’s fourth largest city) in Sverdlovsk Region from 22-23 April 2015. The delegation was warmly received by the regional authorities, business and academia. During the meeting with the Governor of Ekaterinburg, H. E. Mr. Evgeny Kuyvashev, the Governor and the Ambassador of India agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in the field of economic and trade ties, education, tourism and culture. Further, the Governor assured the visiting delegation of all possible cooperation to celebrate the first International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2015 in the region.


Ambassador also interacted with Council of Rector at the Ural State Federal University, and discussed possible areas of cooperation, including student/faculty exchange program, joint research, as well as proposed signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Association of Indian-Russian Universities on 8 May 2015. At the Ural State Economic University, Ambassador delivered a lecture and interacted with the participants of the Eurasian Economic Youth Forum and visited the ‘Arena Multimedia’ centre - a joint IT training program of India’s APTECH and the Ural State Economic University. During the meeting with the Rector of the Ural State Economic University, the sides explored cooperation opportunities, including on India’s participation in the Youth Forum in Ekaterinburg and agreed to organize a meeting in July 2015 to further develop cooperation in education field.

Indian business delegation led by Embassy officials visited Uralvagonzavod in Nizhny Tagil and Uralkhimmash in Ekaterinburg, where business representative from L&T and Grover International made presentations about their respective companies and discussed cooperation opportunities in new projects. The delegation also interacted with representatives of the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry about possibilities of cooperation in the area of pharmaceutical, biomedical equipment, titanium related products, infrastructure development, heavy machinery, mining and instrument manufacturing.

An interactive session was organized with the ‘Friends of India’, where representatives from various centers related to Ayurveda, Yoga, spiritualism, etc briefed about their activities in the region. They were apprised about the first International Day of Yoga and provided suggestions on organizing the upcoming event. Later, senior representatives of the Ekaterinburg government, business, media, cultural organizations and Indian community attended a reception hosted by the Embassy.
