Presentation of Astrakhan Region at the Embassy
The Embassy of India and the Government of Astrakhan region jointly organized a presentation on trade, business and investment opportunities in the Astrakhan region on November 19, 2014 in the premises of Embassy of India.
Ms. Elina Polyanskaya, Vice-Chairman of the Astrakhan Government – Minister of Economic Development-led a high-level official and business delegation from the region. The regional administration and investment agency of Astrakhan region made presentations on the potential for mutual cooperation in trade and investment sectors. Agro-processing, shipbuilding, oil & gas, renewable energy, aquaculture and logistics were identified as major areas with considerable potential for mutual collaboration. A presentation was made by an Indian company in logistics sector with emphasis on activating the North South transport corridor.
The Ambassador of India Mr. P.S. Raghavan spoke about the long standing partnership between Astrakhan and India, particularly Gujarat State which has a programme of cooperation with Astrakhan since 2001. The Ambassador underlined the importance of Astrakhan in boosting bilateral trade and economic activities due to its location on the Caspian Sea. Welcoming the participation of the Astrakhan delegation, led by its Governor, in Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2015, the Ambassador said the Embassy would be happy to help in facilitating meetings and interactions for the delegation.
Ms. Elina Polyanskaya expressed interest in enhancing engagement with Indian companies and emphasized the importance of activation of the North South transport corridor for enhancing bilateral trade and economic activities.
Businesspersons from both sides exchanged contacts and interacted actively to enhance bilateral activities and to explore opportunities for mutual benefits. The Embassy will continue to organize such events for intensifying economic cooperation between India and Russian regions.
