Enhancing cooperation between Nizhny Novgorod region & India, 06-07 October 2014

Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. P.S. Raghavan led a delegation comprising Embassy diplomats and Moscow-based Indian businessmen to Nizhny Novgorod on October 6-7, 2014. The business delegation represented banking, automobile, machine building and other engineering sectors.

The delegation was warmly received by the regional and city representatives, including the Governor H.E. Mr. Valery Shantsev, the Mayor H.E. Mr Oleg Sorokin and the regional Chamber of Commerce.

Visits were organized to Atomenergoproyekt, an engineering company engaged in nuclear power plants, Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ), a major manufacturer of commercial vehicles and prominent pharmaceuticals company Nizhpharm. At the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Nizhny Novgorod, a number of enterprises of the region interacted with the delegation.

The discussions highlighted areas of promise for future collaboration between Indian business and the enterprises of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the automobile sector (particularly auto components), pharmaceuticals, IT, chemicals and other engineering products. A number of promising leads were identified for follow up.

At Lobachevsky University, the delegation discussed with the Council of Rectors of the regional Universities initiatives to enhance cooperation in education, including student & faculty exchanges and organization of seminars and workshops. They visited Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy and interacted with Indian students of the Academy (56 Indian students are currently enrolled in NNSMA).

The Ambassador requested the Governor to consider leading a delegation of government and business representatives to India to impart greater impetus to bilateral cooperation. He also invited the region to make a presentation of its economic perspectives and business potential to Indian business representatives at the Embassy of India in Moscow.
