President, ICCR, Dr. Karan Singh’s eventful Moscow visit

Dr. Karan Singh, President ICCR, offering floral tributes at the Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru at JNCC

Dr. Karan Singh, President, ICCR visited Moscow during 22-27 June, 2010.  He visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre on 22nd June, 2010. Shri Anil Trigunayat, Deputy Chief of Mission, Shri Manish Prabhat, Director, JNCC and Shri Sanjay Vedi, Deputy Director, JNCC accompanied President, ICCR during his visit to JNCC. 
In the Dance class room, a Kathak Dance composition by the students of Shri Raghav Raj Bhatt, JNCC Kathak Teacher was presented followed by an Odissi composition by Ms. Vitalina Lobach. In the Music class room, Shri Radhesham Sharma, JNCC Tabla teacher and his students showed their performance of Tabla and Pakhawaj.  In Yoga Room, the students of Dr. N Suresh Babu, JNCC Yoga Teacher showed asanas that they are practicing during their classes.  A get-together of some Hindi teachers from various universities and institutions of Moscow was organized in the Hindi Room.  Hindi students of Prof. Shishir Kumar Pandey, JNCC Hindi Teacher were also present.  Some of them read poems and songs in Hindi.  Teachers of other institutions shared their views with President, ICCR on the status of Hindi in Russia and especially their request for more scholarship for students and short-term refresher courses for Hindi teachers of Russia in India. Hindi teachers present on the occasion were Dr. Indira Gazieva of the Russian State University for Humanities; Dr. Guzel Strelkova of the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University; Dr. Svetlana Mikoyan of the Moscow State University’s Faculty of Journalism; Prof. Alexander Sigorsky of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) and Ms. Sofromo Tolibi of School No. 19. Ms. Tolibi also thanked ICCR and the Embassy for providing Hindi textbooks for the students of her School.

On 23 June, Dr. Karan Singh inaugurated the 17th International Transpersonal Conference devoted to the theme of

“Consciousness Revolution: Transpersonal Discoveries that are Changing the World” at Hotel Ismailovskoe.  In his inaugural address, he spoke on the topic of “Spirituality in the Global Society”. Quoting extensively from scriptures, Dr. Karan Singh laid emphasis on the need to re-discover and understand the role of spirituality in sustaining humanity and universal values in our modern world which has been troubled by multifarious problems. Before the inaugural speech, a film on Dr. Karan Singh “I Believe” made by Ranjit Chaudhary was screened.


The International Transpersonal Conference ended on 27 June.  Over 1000 participants from more than 50 countries participated in the Conference including numerous scholars, artists and spiritual teachers and discussed the fundamental role of consciousness in all aspects of human life.  Shri Radhesham Sharma, JNCC Tabla Teacher presented a music concert with his students at the Closing Ceremony of the Conference.

Dr. Karan Singh, President, ICCR was awarded with the Diploma of Honorary Membership of the Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences on 25 June. The decision to award the Diploma was taken by the Academic Council of the Institute in its meeting held on 22 June in recognition of Dr. Karan Singh’s “outstanding scientific achievements and his contribution to the strengthening of Russian-Indian philosophical ties”.
 
The Diploma was presented to Dr. Karan Singh by Academician Abdusalam Guseinov, Director of the Institute of Philosophy. Mr. P.P. Shukla, Ambassador of India was present on the occasion. On the occasion, Dr. Karan Singh delivered a talk on “Vedanta Today” which was attended by faculty members, research scholars and students of various academic institutions in Moscow. The talk was followed by an interactive session with Dr. Karan Singh and was well attended. The event ended with a reception organized at the Institute by JNCC.

A cultural programme was organized in honour of President, ICCR on 25 June at the D P Dhar Hall, Embassy of India.  The programme began with a fusion music concert by students of Shri Radhesham Sharma, JNCC Tabla Teacher along with musicians playing Pakhawaj, Flute, Trombone, Guitar and Bass Guitar.  The JNCC Yoga students presented “Yoga Vinyasa” of various asanas under the guidance of JNCC Yoga Teacher, Dr. N Suresh Babu.  The programme ended with Bharatanatyam dance performances by the artistes of a local group “Nirmala”, which was founded by Ms. Irina Elantateseva alongwith famous Bharatanatyam exponent Mrs. Nirmala Ramachandran in 1987. Mr. Alexander Avdeev, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation and other distinguished guests attended the cultural presentation which was followed by a by a reception hosted by Mr. P. P. Shukla, Ambassador of India at his residence.
Asia Pacific Bazar Held
Ms. Tatiana Nazarova, JNCC local Kathak teacher presented a Kathak Dance performance on the occasion of the Asia Pacific Bazar held on 5th June, 2010 at Hotel Radisson.  Kathak presentation was well received by audience of about 800 in a capacity filled hall where artistes from Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines and Vietnam also presented their cultural programmes on the occasion.  Indian Stall was put up at the Bazar by the Indian Women’s Association.

8TH Jazz & Folk Festival held

The 8th Jazz & Folk Festival was organized in the Ghezdilovo Mosalski Region, Kaluzhski, Russia during 10-14 June, 2010.  Shri Radhesham Sharma, JNCC Tabla Teacher participated in this Festival.  He conducted his Master Class and presented a Concert on 13th June, 2010. The open air festival was attended by visited by about 300 people. About 150 persons attended the Tabla master class.
