Independence Day celebrations in MOSCOW
Independence Day was celebrated in the premises of the Embassy on 15 August 2010. The flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Embassy. Ambassador Shri P.P. Shukla unfurled the flag and read excerpts from the President's message. Students of the Embassy of India School, Moscow presented patriotic songs on the occasion. About 400 people from the Indian community and some local Russians attended the ceremony which was followed by serving Indian refreshments.  Read More...

National Security Advisor visits Moscow
National Security Advisor Shri Shiv Shanker Menon visited Moscow from 16-17 August 2010. He called on Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin and held talks with Secretary of Security Council Mr. NP Patrushev. He also called on Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Sergei Ivanov.
Foreign Secretary Visits Moscow
Foreign Secretary Smt. Nirupama Rao paid a three-day visit to Moscow from August 1-3, 2010 for Foreign Office Consultations with her counterpart First Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. A. Denisov. She also had a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Alexei Borodavkin and called on Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Sergei Sobyanin.
Joint Secretary (PAI) holds Consultations
Joint Secretary (PAI), Ministry of External Affairs Shri Y.K. Sinha held Foreign Office Consultations on Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan with his counterpart Director, Second Asia Department, Russian MFA Mr. Zamir Kabulov.
Consultations on Central Asia held
Joint Secretary (ERS), Ministry of External Affairs Shri Ajay Bisaria held Foreign Office Consultations on Central Asia with Director of 3rd Department for CIS Mr. Maxim Peshkov.
ISRO Secretary Visits

Secretary, Department of Space & Chairman ISRO Dr. K. Radhakrishnan visited Russia from 1-5 August 2010 for technical consultations on Chandrayan II project and GLONASS.
Defence
11th Meeting of the Subgroup on Shipbuilding held
11th Meeting of the Subgroup on Shipbuilding under Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation was held in St. Petersburg from 23 to 27 August 2010.

The meeting was co-Chaired by Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Navy), Government of India Vice Admiral NN Kumar and Director, Department of Shipbuilding Industry and Naval Equipment, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russian Federation Mr. L.V. Strugov.

Progress of actions taken on the decisions of the 15th meeting held in Feb 2010 at Lonavla, India was reviewed and discussions were held on new agenda points. Both sides acknowledged the need for continued interaction for follow up on decisions taken during the Sub-Group’s meetings and agreed to strengthen this vital link so as to prevent recurrence of delays in implementation of decisions. They agreed to make efforts for expeditious resolution and to conduct regular reviews of all issues in order to ensure that agreed time frames are met.
Bharatanatyam dance performance held

An evening of Bharatanatyam dance performance by Ms. Ganna Smirnova was organized on 12 August. Shri Anil Trigunayat, Deputy Chief of Mission Shri Anil Trigunayat and Mrs. Anupama Trigunayat graced the occasion. Ms. Ganna Smirnova is one of the leading Bharatanatyam dancers outside India and running her dance school “Nakshatra” in Kyiv and has been an ICCR scholar of Bharatanatyam.

Ms. Smirnova introduced her book on Bharatanatyam entitled “Temple Dances – Traditions, Philosophy and Legends” and presented a copy of the book to Shri Trigunayat.

PM Singh condolence message
Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Manmohan Singh, sent messages (on 17th August 2010) to President H.E. Mr. Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister H.E.Mr. Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation conveying on behalf of the Government and people of India, sympathies and solidarity with the Government and people of the Russian Federation at the forest fire that ravaged many regions of the Russian Federation.

President Dmitry’s Condolence Message
President of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Dmitry Medvedev of the Russian Federation sent a message of condolences to the President of India on 6 August 2010 following devastating floods in Leh, Ladakh.
