1. Cultural presentation in honour of Parliamentary Delegation
In honour of a Parliamentary delegation led by Shri Ashwini Kumar, Hon’ble Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, the JNCC organized a cultural presentation at D P Dhar Hall on 4 May. The presentation featured Yoga by students of JNCC Teacher, Dr. N Suresh Babu, Bharatanatyam by students of JNCC Teacher, Ms. Nadezheda Koveriga, Odissi by Ms. Vitalina Lobach, JNCC Teacher and her students and Kathak by students of JNCC Teacher, Shri Raghav Raj Bhatt. The presentation was aimed at showing the interest of Russian students in learning Indian dances, music and Yoga.

2. Excursion of children of the Centre for Children Adaptation and Education under the Committee “Civic Assistance” at JNCC
The Centre for Children Adaptation and Education under the Committee “Civic Assistance” deals with children of refugees, forced migrants, labor migrants and children from problem families. These children study the school subjects, paint, visit museums and attend excursions. A group of 10 children had an excursion at JNCC on 11 May. During the excursion, children interacted with JNCC’s Kathak, Tabla, Yoga and Hindi teachers. Special lessons were conducted for them in order to give them an insight of Indian culture. Children were presented “Discover India”, containing informational material about India. They were also provided Indian snacks after their excursion.

3. Support to Association International des Etudientes en Science Economique et Commercial (AIESEC)
The AIESEC is an international organization of youth, which is involved in youth exchange activities in different countries. They organized a seminar on 15 May for a group of interns who were scheduled to visit India in summer. The JNCC supported the event by way of providing informational material about India obtained from the Information Wing of the Embassy.

4. Tagore Anniversary Celebration
On the occasion of 150th Anniversary of Guru Rabindranath Tagore, Flower Laying Ceremony was organized by JNCC in the park at Richnoi Vakhzal, Moscow near Tagore’s statue on 15 May. The event was attended prominent Russian and Indian people connected with Tagore. Shri Mayank Singh, Second Secretary (PIC) addressed the gathering on behalf of the Embassy of India. While congratulating the audience on the occasion, he highlighted various aspects of his life as also relevance of Tagore’s principles in today’s world. The other speakers on the occasion were Prof. Sergei Serebriani of RSUH, Prof. Irina Prokofieva, Bengali scholar and expert in MGIMO, Dr. R K Saxena of University of Delhi, Shri R.N. Chatterjee, President, Hindustani Samaj, Shri Rameshwar Singh, President, Disha, Ms. Ludmila Sekachova, Director of the Parade of Cultural Heritage Project “World of Traditions” and Ms. Tatiana Morozova, a musicologist and Indologist. People of Indian community recited Tagore’s poetry. Dr. Neelam Saxena, JNCC Hindi Professor presented the vote of thanks. Ceremony was followed with serving of Indian snacks. About 80 people attended the event.

5.Tagore Anniversary Celebration by Hindustani Samaj
The Hindustani Samaj celebrated the 150th Anniversary of Guru Rabindranath Tagore on 17 May at D P Dhar Hall of the Embassy of India. The event was organized with the support of JNCC. Shri Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador of India graced the occasion. The programme began with offering of flowers at the portrait of Tagore by Ambassador and Shri R N Chatterjee, President, Hindustani Samaj. In his remarks, Ambassador highlighted Tagore’s principles, especially his vision for uplifting the society through the medium of education. He also highlighted Tagore’s connection with Russia and his visit to this country in 1930. The other speakers on the occasion were Shri R N Chatterjee, President Hindustani Samaj, Prof. Sergei Serebriani, Indologist, Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH), Prof. Irina Prokofieva, Bengali scholar and expert, MGIMO, Ms. Ludmila Sekachova, Director, NCO Parade of Cultural Heritage Project “World of Traditions” and Padamshri Genady Pechnikov. On the occasion, paintings by children of Art Studio “Obraz”, Protvino (Moscow Region) and Miss Harsha, a student of Embassy of India School were displayed. The cultural presentations by children of Tagore School, Protvino Lyceum School, Music School were organized. Folk songs were presented by a Russian Folk Group “Karagod”. Tagore’s songs were sung by members of the Hindustani Samaj. A music composition on Tabla, Harmonium and Flute was presented by JNCC Tabla Teacher, Shri A Badri Narayan Pandit and his students. A Kathak dance composition was presented by JNCC Kathak Teacher, Shri Raghav Raj Bhatt. The programme was followed by a reception. About 120 people attended the programme.

6. Photo exhibition “Indo-Russian Magnet – a Message from Heart to Heart”
The photo exhibition “Indo-Russian Magnet – a Message from Heart to Heart” was held on 18 May at the Palace of Culture of Bauman State Technical University, Moscow. Shri Mayank Singh, Second Secretary (PIC) attended the event and greeted the organizers and audience on behalf of the Embassy of India. A Yoga presentation by JNCC Yoga Teacher, Dr. N Suresh Babu was also organized on the occasion. About 60 people attended the event.

7. Annual Summer Bazar
The JNCC actively participated in the Annual Summer Bazar organized by the Indian Women Association at India House on 21 May. The Bazar was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador of India by lighting of traditional lamp. The JNCC coordinated the stage decoration and cultural presentations. Cultural presentations featured folk dances of various States of India (Gujarat, Punjab, West Bengal and Rajasthan), classical dance presentations (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi and Odissi). Embassy of India school children presented folk dances of India (Bhangra, Rajasthan, Assam and Bollywood) and sung songs from Hindi movies. Students of India-based and local JNCC teachers also presented their compositions (Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, semi-classical and Odissi). Hindi students of JNCC presented a song from Hindi movie. Artistes of various local Indian cultural groups (Sangam, Manjari and Saraswati) presented compositions of various dance styles of India. A music group “Sangeet Anand” from Kolmna District (Moscow Region) presented devotional songs. Famous singer of Hindi songs, Mr. Elmar also sung a few songs. A local dance group of Indians “Rangila Punjab” presented Bhangra. More than 30 presentations were organized throughout the day. About 4000 people attended the event.

8. Kathak workshop/master classes by Ms. Mangla Bhatt
With JNCC’s support, the Nritya Sabha Foundation conducted Kathak workshops/master classes by eminent Kathak dancer, Ms. Mangla Bhatt at JNCC during 23-29 May. The workshops were attended by about 10 students.

9. Annual Concert at the Oriental University
The Oriental University organized its annual concert featuring songs and dances of different oriental and western countries at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences on 27 May. The Indian culture was represented through Kathak dance presentation by students of Shri Raghav Raj Bhatt, JNCC Kathak Teacher. About 500 people attended the event.

10. Exhibition “Dreams about India”
The exhibition “Dreams about India”, comprising graphics and paintings on India from the collection of Leonid Lupanov and works of some contemporary artistes from different cities of Russia was inaugurated on 27 May at D P Dhar Hall. The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Shri Anil Trigunayat, Deputy Chief of Mission and Ms. Marina Kartopolova, holder of the collection of exhibits by lighting of lamp. While congratulating Ms. Kartopolova, Shri Trigunayat appreciated her interest in Indian culture and association of her father, Mr. Leonid Lupanov with India, who visited there during 1958-61 in connection with setting-up of Bhillai Steel Plant. Mr. Vladimir Anisimov, Member of Union of Artists of Russia, President of Roerich Russian-Indian Art Club and President of the Bureau of Art Expeditions also spoke on the occasion. While expressing her gratitude to the Embassy of India for displaying her exhibition, Ms. Kartopolova hoped that this exhibition would receive good response in India where it is scheduled to be held at the Roerich House in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh. The inaugural ceremony was followed by Odissi dance presentation by students of JNCC Odissi Teacher, Ms. Vitalina Lobach. About 100 people attended the event.

11. Asia Pacific Women’s Charity Bazar
The Indian Women Association participated in the annual Charity Bazar of Asia Pacific Women’s Association held on 28 May at Hotel Radisson Slavyanskaya, Moscow. Cultural presentations of various countries were organized on the occasion. India was represented through a Kuchipudi dance composition by students of Ms. Padma Puttu, JNCC Teacher. The event was attended by 1000 people.
