New Year Celebration
Picking up after being adversely hit by the global slowdown, India's IT sector is performing well and would experience an annual growth of 25-26 percent, Infosys Technologies founder-chairman N R Narayana Murthy said. "Under the current circumstances, it is performing well," Narayana Murthy told mediapersons on the sidelines of a function here.

A. New Year Celebration at the House of Missionaries of Charity
Missionaries of Charity dedicated to the memory of Mother Teresa in Moscow celebrated New Year by holding a function on 3 January. As a social organization, this House takes care of the mentally challenged. The students of Shri Raghav Raj Bhatt, JNCC Kathak teacher presented Kathak dance compositions during the function. About 50 inmates and workers of the House attended the programme.

B.Interaction with children of School No.2028

The interaction with children of School No.2028 continued in the month of January. The students of Classes 8-A and 8-B visited JNCC on 21 and 25 January respectively. They participated in Yoga, Tabla, Kathak and Hindi lessons of JNCC. Shri Sanjay Vedi, Deputy Director, JNCC apprised them of the activities of JNCC. The students were also presented a promotional kit “Discover India”. Indian snacks were arranged in order to provide them a glimpse of Indian cuisine. Students were accompanied by their teachers, who explored the possibility of conducting a special weekly class for their students at JNCC on a regular basis.

B.Interaction with children of School No.2028
As per the directives of the Ministry of External Affairs, the World Hindi Day is celebrated on 10 January. Given that the first 10 days of January are general holidays in Russia, this year the World Hindi Day was celebrated in the Embassy of India on 28 January. The function was organized by JNCC at D P Dhar Hall of the Embassy. Shri P P Shukla, Ambassador of India graced the occasion. Shri Anil Trigunayat, Deputy Chief of Mission, Padmashree Dr. Madan Lal Madhu, Dr. Sergey Serebriani of the Russian State University for Humanities (RSUH), Prof. Guzel Strelkova of the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Dr. Alexander A Stolyarov, Head of International Centre for South Asian Studies in RSUH, Ms. Safarmo Tolibi of Hindi School No.19, Mr. Rameshwar Singh, President, Disha (a non-commercial organization) and Co-President, Mrs. Nadzheda Singh participated in the function.

The programme began with traditional lighting of lamp by Ambassador and other guests on the occasion.On the occasion, Ambassador first of all paid homage to the victims of recent terrorist attack at the Domododevo Airport in Moscow on 24 January and said that the people of India stood with the people of Russia in the fight against terrorism. Speaking of the importance of the World Hindi Day, Ambassador noted that Hindi is the second largest spoken language of the world and was studied with great enthusiasm in many foreign countries including Russia. He assured Embassy’s full support for promotion of Hindi language.

The other expert speakers on the occasion were Padamshree Dr. Madan Lal Madhu, a noted Hindi scholar in Russia, Dr. Sergey Serebriani, Dr. Guzel Sterlkova, Ms. Safarmo Tolibi and Ms. Nadzheda Singh. The speakers appreciated the efforts that are made by JNCC and Embassy of India for promotion of Hindi language especially the Hindi-teaching facilities provided through Hindi Professor in JNCC and in other Russian institutions. The need to invite Hindi scholars from India to interact with their Russian counterparts was also expressed by the speakers. Ms. Nadzheda Singh of NGO “Disha” recounted her own experience of learning Hindi when JNCC was established and Disha’s resolve to popularize Hindi among the second generation of such families which have mixed Indian-Russian parentage.

The presentation by learners began with a student of the Russian State University of Humanities who talked about her experience in learning Hindi by herself. The other presentations by students of RSUH included a story “Gadhe ki Kahani” through slide show and commentary by students and poems “Ham bhi vapis aayenge” and “Pushp ki Abhilasha”. The students of School No.19 presented two poems “Bharat Desh” and “Hindi Bhasha”. Ms. Tanya Kopylova of the radio “Voice of Russia” recited Kabir’s “Maya Maha Thagini Ham Jani”.

The presentation by JNCC students began with a popular devotional song “Tu Pyar ka Sagar Hai”. The other presentations included poems “Pustak” and “Achchi Shiksha”, stories “Vidya” and “Jao aur Aao” and humorous poem “Internet”. The presentation by JNCC students ended with a motivational song “Ham Honge Kamyab”. The presentation by students was conducted by Dr. Neelam Saxena, JNCC Hindi Professor. Vote of thanks was presented by Shri A K Tripathi, Hindi Teacher of Embassy of India School, Moscow.

As a mark of appreciation, Ambassador presented Hindi books to all the speakers and students who made presentations during the programme. About 120 people attended the programme which concluded with a reception.

C.Celebration of 7th Anniversary of “Sangam” Cultural Institution
Ms. Marina V Mailyan aka “Suraj Devi”, Director of “Sangam”, a local Cultural Centre has been involved in promoting Indian culture in Russia thorough the medium of Indian classical and folk dances for several years. She established her own cultural institution “Sangam” in 2004 which celebrated its 7th Anniversary on 29 January at “Avangard” Auditorium, Moscow. On the occasion, local children’s groups presented various Indian classical, folk and popular dances. A few Hindi songs were sung by a local singer Mr. Elmar, who is very popular for his singing of Hindi movie songs. JNCC presented “Discover India” kits in Russian to all the children participants of the function. Shri Sanjay Vedi, Deputy Director represented JNCC at the function and conveyed JNCC’s support to “Sangam” in its continued work in the field of promotion of Indian classical dances and other aspects of Indian culture.
